Developer plans shopping center at Snyder Freeway, Bardstown Road

A Lexington development company is planning a shopping center with 13 stores and/or restaurants just southwest of the Gene Snyder Freeway and Bardstown Road.
Plans call for a 50,000-square-foot, unnamed retail outlet to anchor the nearly 230,000-square-foot shopping center, The Courier-Journal reports.

William Bardenwerper, zoning lawyer for Madden Development, says that Madden has a contract with several property owners to buy the site, which is 26 acres in total along Bartley Drive, across from Bates Elementary School. Bardenwerper added that Madden now has tentative commitments from tenants for most of the planned space, the story said.

Madden plans to later file to rezone the property from R-4 single-family residential to C-2 commercial, and the Metro Planning Commission will set a public hearing on the zoning application, then make a recommendation on the case to the Louisville Metro Council, the story said.
A meeting is set for July 21 at 7 p.m. at the Fern Creek fire station on Bardstown Road to explain the plans to neighbors, the story said.
