MSD: Ohio River Force Main Upgrade

Land Design & Development, Inc. was hired by Louisville and Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) to study the existing system and provide engineering plans for the upgrading of the pump stations connected to the force main to reach ultimate build out. The project involved modeling the force main and the 7 pump stations pumping through it to determine what upgrades were necessary at each station to allow them to pump the ultimate design flow for their sewer shed in combination with other flows with the other stations. The analysis determined that 4 of the pump stations needed to be upgraded. LD&D prepared plans for each of the 4 stations requiring upgrades. The final design used variable speed drives in the pump station design. LD&D also prepared topographic and boundary surveys to create a base map for each of the existing pump stations.
